I live in N.Y. and have been going to the D.R. for 24yrs. My wife is Dominican and I have built a beautiful home in Puerto Plata. Close family members are the Piewonski family of Portillo. I have been there many times and must say it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We have taken many of our friends and all have said the same thing. I hope the mountain keeps out the developers.Well I guess it hasn't and you are exactly right. It is being destroyed by both foreiners and Dominicans alike. My family in Puerto Plata ,Santiago, and Santo Domingo are the same. Great people but don't share the wealth. I probably spend more in one week in the local restuarants and stores then some do in a year. The country is filled with all inclusives and this seems to be the clientle that the D.R. is drawing. However you must remember that this is the way of the D.R. and you can't change it. Money talks and nothing else. Don't give up because before you know it with the new airport and highway Las terranas will become another Sosua beach. In both cases the beaches are beatiful it's the tourists that are becoming ugly.
                  Good Luck
