The owner of Tubagua Plantation Retreat offers a service to people who want to tour the Dominican Republic independently but wouldn't mind a little help in planning and support. Read about it at http://www.Travel-Dominican-Republic.com

My husband and I plan on spending at least ten days in the DR... we are very excited! We know that we want to spend some time in Santo Domingo(for the historical stuff) and maybe even go over to Catalina Island (for snorkelling, I love it). We are the adventure type, we don't spend too much time lying on the beach sipping our drinks, and we like the culture so just sitting around a hotel and not seeing and talking with the people is not our thing, we prefer authentic not built for tourism towns and places to eat. My question is on the Northern coast where should we stay? Puerto Plata? Playa Durado? Sosua? And which is the best for reefs and snorkelling (like I said, I love it)? What about Samana?
Sorry, I have sooo many questions!
Thanks, Annette
